2025 NABMSA Symposium
Rethinking Landscape: Environment, Place, and Heritage in British Music Studies
Thursday 10 July to Saturday 12 July 2025
via Zoom
Welcome to the Third Biennial Symposium of the North American British Music Studies Association. We welcome all who are interested in British Music Studies, considered broadly.
Landscape and environment have been topics of perennial interest in British Music Studies, inspiring both celebrated and controversial readings of connections between British music, nature and climate, and identity. Yet in the era of the climate change emergency, these issues are both taking on new urgency, and prompting new debates and compositional techniques. The 2025 symposium, Rethinking Landscape: Environment, Place, and Heritage in British Music Studies, offers timely rethinking of the scholarly terrain and discourse around landscape in British music.
The Symposium will be presented on Zoom and is free for all NABMSA members. Registration and programme information are available below.
All sessions are scheduled to accommodate participants in both the US and the UK. Guidelines for attendees, presenters, chairs, and access instructions will be provided on this page and via e-mail well before the conference begins.
